Product Selection Based Upon RECP Specification Categories

ECTC members provide a wide variety of erosion and sediment control materials. These materials provide different levels of erosion protection. The tools given here will assist you in selecting appropriate erosion control products. The following information is provided as a first step in the careful evaluation of the erosion control materials best suited to the site conditions and needs.

ECTC has specifications for rolled erosion control products (RECP), hydraulic erosion control products (HECP) and sediment retention fiber rolls (SRFR). The following allows you to select products based upon a variety of selection criteria.

Ultra Short-Term

1C) ULTRA SHORT TERM ‐ Typical 3-month functional longevity. - Single-net Erosion Control Blankets - Processed degradable natural and/or polymer fibers mechanically bound together by a single rapidly degrading, synthetic or natural fiber netting.

1D) ULTRA SHORT TERM ‐ Typical 3-month functional longevity. - Double-net Erosion Control Blanket - Processed degradable natural and/or polymer fibers mechanically bound together between two rapidly degrading, synthetic or natural fiber nettings.

Short-Term

2A) SHORT‐TERM ‐ Typical 12-month functional longevity. - Netting / Open Weave Textile - A photodegradable synthetic mesh or woven biodegradable natural fiber netting.

2B) SHORT‐TERM ‐ Typical 12-month functional longevity. - Netless Rolled Erosion Control Blankets - Natural and/or polymer fibers mechani- cally interlocked and/or chemically adhered together to form an RECP.

2C) SHORT‐TERM ‐ Typical 12-month functional longevity. - Single-net Erosion Control Blankets - Processed degradable natural and/or polymer fibers mechanically bound together by a single rapidly degrading, synthetic or natural fiber netting.

Extended-Term

3A) EXTENDED‐TERM ‐ Typical 24-month functional longevity. - Open Weave Textiles - An open weave textile composed of processed slow degrading natural or polymer yarns or twines woven into a continuous

3B) EXTENDED‐TERM ‐ Typical 24-month functional longevity. - Erosion Control Blankets - An erosion control blanket composed of processed slow degrading natural or polymer fibers mechanically bound together between two slow degrading synthetic or natural fiber nettings to form a continuous matrix.

Long-Term

4A) LONG‐TERM ‐ Typical 36-month functional longevity. - Open Weave Textiles - An open weave textile composed of processed slow degrading natural or polymer yarns or twines woven into a continuous matrix.

4B) LONG‐TERM ‐ Typical 36-month functional longevity. - Erosion Control Blankets - An erosion control blanket composed of processed slow degrading natural or polymer fibers mechanically bound together between two slow degrading synthetic or natural fiber nettings to form a continuous matrix.

Turf Reinforcement Mats (TRMs)

5A) Turf Reinforcement Mats (TRMs) For applications where vegetation alone will not sustain expected flow conditions and/or provide sufficient long‐term erosion protection. - TRM performance and durability, in general, increase from Types 5A to 5E.
